Ciqe Sasquatch will perform music for First Friday, March 4,6 – 8pm at Constellation Studios! Ciqe Sasquatch is a local band that is gritty and polished, urbane and pastoral, with roots in the country; it’s all about Jazz chops, some classical training, professional rock-‘n’-roll player gigs, and a significant investment in songwriting. Ciqe Sasquatch just is different!
Formed by a once-young, now vintage Native Nebraskan singer-songwriter Kjell Cronn, with roots in rural Dawson County, Cronn has a nomadic history and a tendency to express youthful romanticism via travel storytelling set to music. Cronn earned his BFA from UNL in 1994, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art institute in 1996. The band consists of Cronn (songwriter, singer/guitarist/harmonica player) and his friends, Genevieve Randall (flute), Ian Egenberger (Bass, Kazoo, Guitar, vocals), and Pance Zaev (Clarinet, Sax). Zaev earned his PhD from the UNL Music Department this past year.
The band moves through ‘Folk Chamber Music’ toward a pure Americana feel. It’s distinctive name is derived from ‘Ciqe’ (seek) in tribute to Zaev, from Macedonia, where vowels run wild, in Cyrillic; later the band added Sasquatch!
