the constellation studios mural

The Constellation Studios Mural is a major artwork designed and painted by Karen Kunc with teams of students and volunteers. It is an imaginative nature-based abstraction of flowing transitions from watery pools – with her Blue Heron Press logo – to entwined plants, to symbols of galaxies and planets, to constructivist op-art geometric forms, to expanding clouds, radiating star clusters, and a cloud bubble filled with text-like calligraphy, all culminating with a large symbolic multi-branching tree. These themes reference the natural environment, organic vs. geometric interplay, micro- to macrocosmic perspectives, inter-dependence of creative imagination in art and science that celebrates the patterns of life.
